Buenas ventas durante el Viernes Negro, según cifras iniciales
EEUU. (AP)-Las tiendas minoristas recibieron un muy necesitado impulso a sus ventas durante el llamado Viernes Negro, el día con el que arranca la tradicional temporada de compras de fin de año, en que los consumidores gastaron casi 3% más que el año pasado en esta misma fecha.
Atraídos por descuentos fuertes, los consumidores hicieron que las ventas en la jornada después del Día de Acción de Gracias subieran a 10.610 millones de dólares, de acuerdo con cifras preliminares dadas a conocer el sábado por la firma ShopperTrak RCT Corp., que rastrea las ventas de más de 50.000 tiendas minoristas.
El año pasado, los compradores gastaron aproximadamente 10.300 millones de dólares en el día después de Acción de Gracias. Se le conoce como “Viernes Negro” porque históricamente ha sido el día en el que cualquier minorista se vuelve más rentable que en cualquier otra época del año.
Aunque no es un indicador exacto de las ventas generales de la temporada de fin de año, el Viernes Negro se ha convertido en un importante barómetro de la voluntad de la gente para gastar dinero en la temporada de fin de año.
En el 2007, el Viernes Negro fue el mayor generador de ventas de la temporada.
Sin embargo, los expertos advierten que el crecimiento de ventas este año puede ser difícil de sostener para el resto de la temporada de compras, que tiene 27 días entre el día de Acción de Gracias y Navidad, en lugar de los 32 del año pasado.
Aún así, el empujón en las ventas fue sorprendente a la luz de los datos macroeconómicos, que muestran que los compradores están reduciendo sus gastos discrecionales debido a una recesión alimentada por la incertidumbre relacionada a la turbulencia en el mundo financiero y los mercados de crédito.
“Bajo estas circunstancias, arrancar la temporada con este ritmo es de verdad asombroso, y es testamento de la resistencia del consumidor estadounidense y demuestra indisputablemente su voluntad de gastar”, afirmó en una declaración el cofundador de ShopperTrak, Bill Martin.
Consideradas a nivel nacional, las ventas en el sur del país subieron 3,4% frente al mismo día del año pasado. En cuanto a la región centro-norte, una zona tradicionalmente industrial, las ventas aumentaron 2,6%.
Patty Saal, una residente de 60 años en Mogadore, Ohio, empezó su Viernes Negro acudiendo a una tienda a las 5 de la mañana. Ella y sus hijas fueron a una tienda de la cadena Sam’s Club para comprar reproductores iPod.
