EE.UU. (Agencias)- Los hombres tienen una vida sexual activa cada vez más larga, afirma una investigación, y aunque las mujeres “pierden” la libido antes que ellos, también suelen tener largas perspectivas de actividad sexual.
Esas son las conclusiones de un nuevo estudio llevado a cabo en Estados Unidos con 6.000 personas que reveló que cuatro de cada 10 hombres de entre 75 y 85 años siguen teniendo relaciones sexuales.
Entre las mujeres de esa misma edad, dos de cada 10 seguían sexualmente activas, afirma el estudio publicado en British Medical Journal (Revista Médica Británica).
Según los datos, los hombres parecen tener una vida sexual activa cinco años más extensa que la de las mujeres.
A los 55 años, los hombres pueden esperar, en promedio, mantener 15 años más de actividad sexual y las mujeres unos 10,5 años.
La clave de este largo deseo sexual, afirman los investigadores de la Universidad de Chicago, es un buen estado de salud ya que ésta aumenta el impulso y el placer sexual.
Las personas que gozan de buena salud tienen dos veces más probabilidades de estar interesados en las relaciones sexuales que aquellos que están enfermos.
También es más probable que los sanos tengan relaciones sexuales regulares -una vez o más a la semana- y según la encuesta, informan que sus relaciones sexuales son “de calidad”.
Diferencias
En general, dicen los investigadores, los hombres tienen más probabilidades que las mujeres de ser sexualmente activos, de informar de una vida sexual de “buena calidad” y de estar interesados en el sexo.
Y estas diferencias aumentan con la edad.
Los científicos no saben si estas diferencias de género se deben a que los hombres están más interesados en el sexo que las mujeres o porque ellos tienen más tendencia que ellas a alardear sobre su vida sexual.
Los investigadores analizaron los datos de la vida sexual de un grupo de hombres y mujeres de entre 25 y 74 años y otro grupo de entre 57 y 85 años.
Encontraron varios factores que, dicen, podrían explicar los resultados que obtuvieron.
Por ejemplo, la oportunidad. Cerca de 75% de los hombres estudiados en los dos grupos dijeron que tenían una pareja.
Entre las hombres, sólo 60% de las participantes en el grupo de 25 a 74 años tenían pareja. Entre las mujeres mayores de 75 años, menos de cuatro de cada 10 tenían una pareja.
Esto refleja, dicen los científicos, la tendencia de las mujeres de vivir más años y la tendencia de los hombres de casarse con mujeres más jóvenes.
Tal como señala la doctora Patricia Goodson, profesora de la Universidad de Texas A&M, el hecho de que los adultos estén ahora gozando más años de vida sexual después de los 55 son “buenas noticias”.
Pero agrega que “el estudio no ofrece información sobre la interesante -y poco entendida- cuestión de por qué, aún cuando gozan de menos años de vida sexual activa, muchas mujeres no perciben esto como un “problema”".
