Y a grandes males, grandes remedios: los cubanos están empezando a comprar ejemplares viejos del periódico oficial Granma, que aunque sus hojas sean más ásperas, cumplen la misma función por menos de un centavo de dólar.
El problema es más serio de lo que parece.
El papel higiénico no está incluido en la libreta de racionamiento que cubre productos básicos a precios asequibles, de manera que los cubanos desde hace mucho tiempo se han visto obligados a comprarlo en las llamadas “tiendas de divisas” donde escasea y ha aumentado prohibitivamente de precio.
Hace un par de días un paquete de cuatro rollos de papel higiénico nacional se vendía por el equivalente a unos 28 pesos, aproximadamente el sueldo de dos días para el trabajador promedio, explica el Miami.
Las autoridades cubanas afirman que la escasez de «papel de water» es resultado de la crisis económica internacional y de los tres ciclones devastadores del verano pasado, que obligaron a reducir las importaciones. Avisan también de que el problema no se solucionará hasta finales de año.
Esto obliga a los cubanos a usar imaginativas alternativas: aparte del Granma, las revistas chinas y norcoreanas son las favoritas por la suavidad del papel.
De acuerdo al testimonio del periodista del diario de Florida, los jubilados cubanos hacen cola desde antes del amanecer cerca de los puntos de distribución del diario oficial y pagan 20 centavos cubanos por cada ejemplar -aproximadamente 0.007 centavos de dólar.
Más tarde los revenden en sus barrios por un máximo de 20 pesos cubanos, el equivalente a 71 centavos de dólar.
El precio de 20 centavos cubanos por periódico es el mismo para el diario del día o los viejos, agregó uno de los ancianos consultado por el Herald, “porque todos se usan para lo mismo”
