Exiliados cubanos piden al Defensor del Pueblo que se les dé asilo
MADRID. (EFE)- Un grupo de excarcelados cubanos acogidos en España han presentado hoy un escrito de amparo ante el Defensor del Pueblo en el que solicitan que el Gobierno les conceda el estatus de refugiado político y les permita quedarse en Madrid, en vez de ser repartidos por centros de otras ciudades españolas.
La petición está firmada por seis exiliados y una veintena de familiares llegados a España desde el pasado 13 de julio en el marco del diálogo entre el régimen castrista y la Iglesia cubana, ha informado a EFE su abogado, Fernando Vizcaíno.
Los firmantes quieren que el Gobierno les conceda el asilo para que quede de manifiesto la persecución política que se vive en Cuba y que lo haga por el trámite de urgencia para poder regularizar su situación en España.
La Oficina de Asilo y Refugio, integrada por funcionarios de los Ministerios de Interior, Exteriores y Justicia, tiene seis meses para conceder o denegar la petición de asilo.
Estos excarcelados también reclaman el derecho a poder permanecer en Madrid, en lugar de ser trasladados a otras ciudades.
Alegan que la Constitución Española les reconoce el derecho de poder elegir libremente su lugar de residencia.
Los firmantes confían en que el Defensor del Pueblo respalde sus demandas ante el Gobierno.
El cargo de esta institución está vacante desde el pasado 30 de junio, cuando terminó su mandato Enrique Múgica, por lo que es su adjunta primera, María Luisa Cava de Llano la que ejerce el puesto en funciones.
La mitad de los veinte exiliados cubanos llegados a España en el último mes están repartidos por varias provincias en pisos de acogida de Cruz Roja, el Comité Español de Ayuda al Refugiado (CEAR) y la Asociación Comisión Católica de Emigrantes (ACCEM).
Estas organizaciones les dan manutención y una ayuda económica hasta que puedan valerse por sus propios medios.
En los próximos días, se espera la llegada a España de más opositores cubanos del grupo de 52 presos políticos que las autoridades de La Habana se han comprometido a excarcelar antes de que acabe octubre.
