¿Sabes el significado del nombre de los países latinoamericanos?

El otro día alguien me dijo un cuento apócrifo sobre el origen del nombre Venezuela , por lo que  me inspiró investigar la etimología de todos los nombres de los países latinoamericanos.

Ahora para que eleves su sabiduría comparto contigo lo que encontré .

Argentina: Viene de argentum, que significa “plata”

Bolivia: En honor a Simón Bolívar

Chile: Viene de la palabra autóctona tchili que significa “nieve” quizás

Colombia: En honor a Cristóbal Colón

Costa Rica: Por la riqueza que encontraron los españoles

Cuba: Viene del nombre aborigen Cubanascnan, que significa “montaña”

Ecuador: Por la línea geográfica del ecuador

El Salvador: Por Jesús, el Salvador cristiano

Guatemala: Viene de la palabra nahuatl Quauhtlemallan, que significa “tierra de muchos árboles”

Honduras: Una disminución gradual de la palabra “fondear” por los problemas que tuvo Colón en las costas del país

México: Viene del azteca mexitli, que significa “pueblo de los mexicas”; así se llamaban los aztecas en honor a su dios de la guerra Mexitli

Nicaragua: Viene de Nicarao, nombre de un famoso gobernante del lugar cuando llegaron los españoles

Panamá: ¡Hay muchas versiones! Algunos dicen que viene del nombre un árbol común de la región, otros dicen que significa “abundancia de mariposas”, otros “abundancia de pescado” y todavía otros “muy lejos”

Paraguay: La nombre guaraní del río y del país

Perú: La hispanización del nombre del río Virú

Puerto Rico: Hace referencia a las riquezas del puerto de San Juan; El nombre taíno de la isla era Borinquen

República Dominicana: Colón le dio los nombres “Santo Domingo” y “La Española” a la isla, pero los taínos ya la habían nombrado Haytí y a su región este, Quisqueya

Uruguay: Una palabra autóctona que significa “río de los pájaros”

Venezuela: Aunque se ha popularizado la idea que significa “pequeña Venecia”, parece que hay más evidencia que el nombre es autóctono

Brasil: disminucion de Pau Brasil, árbol muy importante en la región litoranea (en Portugal, lo usaban para hacer vestimentas rojas) (¡gracias a Diana por enviarme éste!)

  2. I was curious if you ever thought of changing the layout of your website? Its very well written; I love what youve got to say. But maybe you could a little more in the way of content so people could connect with it better. Youve got an awful lot of text for only having one or 2 pictures. Maybe you could space it out better?
