Muestra de Enrique VIII destaca su pasión por la guerra y el deporte
LONDRES . (Reuters)- Una exhibición en Londres que marca el aniversario número 500 del ascenso al trono de Enrique VIII presenta una armadura espectacular para destacar su pasión por el deporte y la guerra, además de la amplia cintura del rey.
Henry VIII: Dressed to Kill” será exhibida desde el 3 de abril hasta el 17 de enero del 2010 en el edificio White Tower de la capital británica, como parte de una serie de exposiciones programadas para este año en toda Gran Bretaña que celebrará la coronación del famoso rey a los 17 años, en 1509.
La exposición reúne colecciones de armas de la realeza y préstamos de museos extranjeros para construir una imagen del reinado de Enrique, que a través de un énfasis en la guerra moderna y la tecnología pudo haber cambiado el curso de la historia años después de su muerte.
Henry estaba a la vanguardia de la moda y la decoración artística”, dijo a Reuters Thom Richardson, conservador de armas y colecciones orientales de la colección de armas reales.

El traje en capas y de estilo falda fue preparado apenas unos meses antes del torneo “Field of the Cloth of Gold” entre la compañía real de Inglaterra y Francia, luego de que los franceses cambiaran las reglas del concurso a último minuto.
Enrique compitió en el torneo de justa, lucha libre, tiro al arco y combate de pie con “tal fuerza que el fuego saltaba de sus armaduras”.
La exhibición calcula los cambios en el cuerpo de Enrique en base al tamaño de la armadura. A los 23 años, la cintura del rey medía 88 centímetros y su pecho 105,5. A los 48 años, la cintura del monarca creció a 129,5 centímetros y su pecho a 138.
Entre las colecciones del evento se encuentra el balón de fútbol más antiguo conocido del siglo XVI, hecho de la vejiga de un cerdo y cubierto con cuero.
Su amor por el deporte era peligroso. En 1525, mientras perseguía a un halcón, Enrique intentó saltar sobre una zanja con un palo y cayó de cabeza en aguas turbias, para luego ser rescatado por un lacayo.
Su carrera en los torneos de justa terminó a los 44 años cuando “cayó tan fuertemente que todos pensaron que fue un milagro que no haya muerto.
