ESTAMBUL. (Reuters)- Las selecciones de baloncesto de Estados Unidos y Argentina registraron el lunes sus terceros triunfos en el Mundial, luego de que los norteamericanos fueron llevados al límite por un luchador equipo brasileño y la “albiceleste” venció a Angola.
Argentina se impuso por 91-70 sobre Angola en un partido en que el pívot Luis Scola fue el jugador con la mejor actuación del día logrando 32 puntos y ocho rebotes contra los angoleños mientras que Carlos Delfino sumó 22.
“Tenemos que aceptarlo y jugar así, tal vez sin brillo pero buscando tener eficacia”, dijo Scola tras el partido.
“Necesitábamos una victoria para llegar al día de descanso con marca de 3-0 y lo conseguimos, eso fue lo más importante. Ahora hay que aprovechar el día libre para recuperarnos, porque hay jugadores que llevamos muchos minutos en cancha”, agregó.
En tanto, Estados Unidos, liderado por el entrenador Mike Krzyzewski, saltó de felicidad para celebrar su triunfo por 70-68 luego de que los brasileños, que lideraban por 46-43 al mediotiempo, se perdieron dos oportunidades en los segundos finales para que el partido llegara al tiempo extra.
Luego de dos fáciles triunfos en el inicio del torneo, Estados Unidos mostró las primeras señales de nervios mientras los persistentes brasileños sumaban siete tiros de tres puntos en la primera mitad, con Kevin Durant anotando 19 puntos para mantener a los favoritos del torneo a flote.
Por su parte, Eslovenia venció 91-84 a su vecino de los balcanes Croacia en una montaña rusa en que cada equipo anotó 11 tiros de tres puntos.
Eslovenia, con una población de apenas dos millones de personas, es la nación más pequeña participando en el evento de 24 equipos pero tiene el mayor contingente de hinchas alentándola y su apasionado apoyo los ayudó a vencer a los croatas.
“Nuestros seguidores nos dieron el viento en nuestras velas que necesitábamos para seguir adelante y jugar más agresivamente”, dijo el alero esloveno Bostjan Nachbar.
Jaka Lakovic y Uros Slokar anotaron 15 puntos cada uno para Eslovenia y el guardia de Phoenix Suns Goran Dragic sumó 14 más, mientras el trío superaba la excelente actuación individual del croata Roko-Leni Ukic, quien terminó con 20 puntos.
Serbia venció a Jordania por 112-69 con la ayuda de los aleros Marko Keselj y Dusan Savanovic quienes anotaron 21 puntos cada uno, Australia se impuso por 78-43 sobre Alemania e Irán gozó de su primer triunfo en un Mundial de baloncesto al derrotar por 71-58 a Túnez.
