Explosión en planta de refinería mexicana
CADEREYTA, México. (Reuters)- Una explosión se registró el martes en una planta de la refinería Cadereyta, la tercera más grande de México y propiedad de la petrolera estatal Pemex, provocando la muerte de un trabajador y dejando diez heridos.
Pemex dijo que la explosión ocurrió a las 9.20 hora local (1420 GMT) debido a una fuga en un compresor de una planta hidrodesulfuradora de gasóleos de Cadereyta, la refinería más sofisticada del país, ubicada 30 kilómetros al sureste de la industrial ciudad de Monterrey, en el norte de México.
Lamentablemente este incidente provocó el fallecimiento del trabajador de PEMEX Juan Salvador Sánchez Paz, ingeniero de operación de la planta, de 32 años, dijo la compañía en un comunicado.
Pemex, que monopoliza la producción, refinación y exportaciones de crudo mexicanas, dijo que la explosión generó un incendio que ya fue controlado, pero no dio detalles sobre si la refinería seguía operando.
Testigos afuera de las instalaciones dijeron que había camiones de bomberos arrojando agua al lugar donde ocurrió la explosión y ambulancias atendiendo a lesionados leves.
Los heridos graves fueron trasladados a un hospital de Pemex donde decenas de familiares se amontonaban para obtener información.
SEGUNDO ACCIDENTE
DESDE 2007 Cadereyta está ubicada en el estado de Nuevo León, fronterizo con Estados Unidos.
Tiene una capacidad de refinación de 275,000 barriles diarios.
México es uno de los mayores productores de crudo del mundo y un proveedor clave de Estados Unidos, pero es un importador neto de combustibles debido a la falta de capacidad de refinación.
Este es el segundo accidente ocurrido en Pemex, que atraviesa una grave crisis financiera y una caída en su producción, desde 2007.
Ese año, un accidente en la plataforma petrolera Usumacinta, en el Golfo de México, provocó derrames de petróleo y la muerte de 11 trabajadores.
Testigos en el municipio de Benito Juárez, cercano a Cadereyta, dijeron que la explosión hizo cimbrar los edificios.
Vibraron fuerte las ventanas. Fue sólo unos segundos. Tembló todo el edificio, dijo a Reuters José Luis Garza, camarógrafo de comunicación social del municipio de Juárez.
