Toyota construirá autos híbridos Yaris en Francia
TOKIO. (Reuters)- Toyota Motor Corp planea empezar a producir una versión híbrida del subcompacto Yaris en su fábrica en Francia en el año empresarial que inicia en abril próximo, según reportó el diario Mid-Japan Economist.
El híbrido Yaris, llamado Vitz en Japón, se venderá en Europa, según publicó el diario, propiedad en parte de Toyota, sin decir de dónde obtuvo la información.
Una portavoz de Toyota dijo que la automotora aún no podía emitir declaraciones sobre los planes de de productos futuros.
Hace un año, el diario francés La Tribune publicó un reporte similar, citando los planes de Toyota de construir un pequeño auto híbrido en su planta de Valenciennes, que fabrica al subcompacto Yaris.
En ese momento un portavoz de la automotora había negado que se estuviera considerado ese plan.
Los autos híbridos han tenido ventas difíciles en Europa, que prefiere motores diesel para reducir las emisiones de dióxido de carbono.
Toyota ha dicho que planea agregar la opción híbrida en toda su alineación para el 2020, pero no ha anunciado planes para un híbrido Yaris/Vitz.
Su rival Honda Motor Co lanzaría una versión híbrida del subcompacto Jazz/Fit en los próximos meses, con planes de develar al hibrido Jazz en el show de motores de París.
