Fallece Cundo Bermúdez, la cultura cubana está de luto
MIAMI. (RM)- El pintor y escultor cubano Cundo Bermúdez falleció el jueves en Miami a los 94 años, confirmó su representante y amigo, Conrado Basulto.
Bermúdez, considerado el último maestro cubano de la Vanguardia, nació en La Habana el 3 de septiembre de 1914. Estudió pintura en Cuba y México.
De su obra, el pintor mexicano David Alfaro Siqueiros dijo en 1943 que Bermúdez ha tenido gran importancia en la gama cromática de la pintura moderna cubana.
En 1944 inauguró la Exposición de Pintura Cubana en el Museo de Arte Moderno de Nueva York. Dos Fallececuadros, El Balcón y La Barbería, son parte de su colección permanente.
Cundo Bermúdez expuso en Kansas City, California, México, Argentina, Connecticut y Haití, y obtuvo premios en Texas, París, y la sede de la OEA en Washington. En 1994 la casa de subastas Sothebys lo honró con un homenaje por sus 80 años de edad.
En 1959 participó en gestiones para la liberación de presos políticos. A finales de los años 60, abandonó Cuba para establecerse primero en Puerto Rico y luego en Miami.
