Se debe atrasar la hora este domingo
MIAMI. (AGENCIAS)- Al igual que el año pasado, los estadounidenses atrasarán sus relojes una hora este domingo para ajustarse al horario de invierno. El cambio oficial de hora ocurrirá el 2 de noviembre, a partir de las 2 AM. A esa hora, los relojes deben regresarse 60 minutos.
Será la segunda vez que este ajuste se haga el primer domingo de noviembre, pues anteriormente se hacía el último domingo de octubre.
La modificación obedece a la ‘Ley de Política Energética’ de 2005, que reajustó los días del horario de invierno y verano. El Congreso decidió que el ajuste haría que muchos estadounidenses enciendan las luces de sus viviendas una hora más tarde, lo que se traduce en ahorro de energía.
Atrasar una hora los relojes en invierno y adelantarlos esa hora en verano es una medida muy común en varios países. El problema es que algunos programas de computadoras creados antes de 2005 y que no se hayan actualizado, están programados para adelantar automáticamente la hora el último domingo de octubre o primer domingo de abril, cuando se adelantan los relojes.
Esta dificultad ha generado temores que evocan la preocupación mundial causada hace ocho años por el llamado “problema del año 2000″ o Y2K.
El fallo no sólo puede presentarse en computadoras personales, sino que es probable que afecte numerosos dispositivos que registran la hora y se ajustan automáticamente al horario de invierno, como algunos relojes digitales de pulsera o de pared.
En estos casos, el resultado se limitará a una ligera molestia: ajustar la hora manualmente o levantarse al día siguiente con la “hora vieja”.
Cameron Haight, un analista de Gartner Inc., quien ha estudiado los posibles efectos de la falla del horario de invierno, dijo a The Associated Press que el cambio de hora podría hacer que algunas transacciones bancarias queden desajustadas (en cuando a la fecha u otra en que ésta se realiza).
También dijo que las computadoras podrían presentar información errónea sobre la hora a la que se realizará una videoconferencia multinacional, y podrían hacer que los usuarios lleguen tarde a sus citas.
La Asociación de Tecnologías de la Información de Estados Unidos refirió que las organizaciones “podrían enfrentar pérdidas significativas si no están preparadas” para realizar el cambio de hora y ajustar los relojes al horario de invierno.
Dave Thewlis, quien dirige CalConnect, un consorcio que desarrolla estándares tecnológicos para programas de calendario y agenda, dijo que resulta difícil saber cuán extendido pudiera ser el problema.
Pero los expertos advierten que si se toman medidas preventivas, como anticiparse al cambio y hacer los ajustes necesarios, no debe haber ningún tipo de problemas.
