Diez militares mueren en accidente aéreo Venezuela
CARACAS. (Reuters)- Diez militares venezolanos murieron al estrellarse el helicóptero en el que viajaban durante un operativo para capturar narcotraficantes en el estado Apure, fronterizo con Colombia, informó el sábado un oficial de alto rango.
La unidad GN10139 se estrelló cuando despegaba el viernes en la tarde para cubrir la la ruta Buena Vista del Meta-Cararabo, en el oeste del país petrolero, dijo al canal estatal de televisión el comandante general del componente militar, Luis Alfredo Motta.
“Un helicóptero de la Guardia Nacional mientras hacía labores de búsqueda de un grupo de narcotraficantes (…) en el despegue tuvo este lamentable accidente”, dijo el funcionario.
“Fallecieron tres oficiales y siete efectivos de la Guardia Nacional”, agregó el militar.
Venezuela se ha convertido en una de las principales rutas del tráfico de cocaína proveniente de Colombia hacia Estados Unidos y Europa, que pasa por la basta frontera de más de 2.000 kilómetros entre los vecinos andinos donde actúan narcotraficantes, guerrilleros y paramilitares.
Esta semana, las autoridades incautaron 4 toneladas de cocaína enterradas en una granja en uno de las mayores incautaciones de droga de los últimos años.
El presidente Hugo Chávez manifestó el sábado su pesar por la muerte de los soldados que viajaban a bordo de un helicóptero ruso MI17 y aseguró que las autoridades están investigando el accidente.
“Dejaron por aquí una patrulla por esta región, por esta zona, buscando evidencias, haciendo seguimientos a operaciones de narcotráfico que vienen de Colombia”, dijo Chávez el sábado en un acto oficial desde el oriental estado Anzoátegui.
El diario local El Universal dijo en su sitio de internet que en el procedimiento fue capturada una de las personas que estaban siendo buscadas y agregó que también fue localizada la patrulla dejada en tierra, pero no ofreció más detalles.
